I had the pleasure of interviewing Dimple Chandrakant Khubchandani, Founder & CEO (or she likes to call herself Recruitment Lead or Global Recruitment Consultant), Synoverge Consultants.

Dimple is a Global Talent Sourcer and Recruitment Professional with above a decade of experience. She has a team of recruiters and operates a sole proprietary, end-to-end recruitment firm (Synoverge Consultants). She has an excellent track record of talent sourcing as well as the end to end recruitment. She loves helping talent access the right opportunities to grow, learn, and make an impact.

Any opportunity to work in these areas is something that gets her really excited. She is proficient in hiring with and without using active and passive sourcing channels. She likes to explore chrome extensions and Boolean search strings for x-raying through various channels for talent sourcing.

She has experience in hiring for roles in Technical and Non-Technical, mid to leadership levels. Sourcing and recruiting people across the globe.

She has worked with a wide range of clients from startups to giants across multiple geographies such as India, USA, South Korea, Australia, Russia, Vietnam, UK.

What motivated you to choose technical recruiting as your professional career?

Dimple: I did my Bachelors in Computer Applications from Lok Jagruti College of Computer Applications (LJ- CCA) in 2010 – I had applied for a job as a programmer but as it was my first job in the people space and the company found me communicative, expressive and helpful in nature they asked me to join HR as a trial and error and I took it up because I had nothing to lose at that point of time.

FRESHERS DON’T HAVE A LOT TO LOSE TILL THEY KNOW ABOUT IT. 

That’s how my journey started in recruitment – not entirely tech recruitment though in the beginning. I also took up different roles when I was in college – teacher, customer support, private tuitions, and field sales for an NGO.

That helped me understand businesses at a deeper level because in Sales you learn to identify needs and wants, in customer service, you learn to control anger and be polite in every situation, Teaching teaches you what you need to learn. 

I always wanted to get into Tech as I knew programming but never took a chance at it because I started enjoying Technical Recruiting while consulting different clients from different geographies.

Also, I love Recruiting – the ability to interact with people who have an opinion and a mouth along with Logic and coding skills gives me euphoria.

Because, when people share their open roles with you – they trust you with their business.

What is it that excites you about tech recruiting?

Dimple: It’s a tough craft. It is challenging in many ways as technology keeps changing forever with different versions, and new tech languages. You have to have a forever learning attitude to be able to stick to technical recruitment. You get to build the team that is building a dream for many people.

Many tech platforms are redefining what was never normal – 

Uber/OLA doesn’t have their own cars but runs a driving service,

OYO Rooms/AirBnB/Booking.com don’t have their own hotels but they provide you with multiple places to stay within your budget.

Swiggy/Zomato/Dineout doesn’t have their own restaurants but you get food delivered from your desired place.

Makkan.com/housing etc don’t have their own properties but you can find and buy a home online.

3 decades ago who knew there would be Whatsapp or Facebook and you could see and chat with someone online.

Genuin is a video chat discovery -professional networking platform where one can find skilled talent / connect with investors /hire people.

Tiktok/Roposo created opportunities for people which most would find that those people are “unskilled talent” for corporates.

Grofers would deliver you vegetables/eggs at home.

From finding a needle to finding a life partner through applications that will suggest you options with the use of AI. Tech is everywhere. We live and breathe technology without realizing it.

Who knew life would get this easy without tech? You are dealing with intelligent and awesome people who build products/services that many people use or are going to use.

I love Technical Recruiting also because this is what I understand in lesser words and I’m passionate about it.

What have been your biggest challenges in tech recruitment?

Dimple: >> The forever changing versions, languages, and the rigidity of Clients asking for a fixed set of experiences.

>> Demand supply gap.

>> Too many vacancies.

>> Credibility and authenticity of the candidate.

>> Lengthy interview process 4-8 rounds – candidates lose patience and interest as they are in demand right now.

>> Looking in the wrong places – funny when an asp.net developer applies for a PHP developer role or IOS without reading anything at all.

>> Irrational Salary hike demand.

The challenges I have personally faced are with LONGER NOTICE PERIODS in India and lengthy interview processes.

What do you think is the future of tech recruitment and which tech problems need to be solved?

Dimple: Artificial intelligence will forever need a Human because robots cannot feel your emotions and robots are not open to hiring a person behind the resume, they need to be instructed about everything about every step.

AI is only best when coupled with a human. Too much dependency on tech – causes laziness, and health issues both mental and physical. Loss of social skills. Lack of interest in the real world.

The problems will be more emotionally damaging. It will also take away many jobs as well as a surplus of applicants. Using more tech products is a waste of time – the simpler things you keep the simple life you live.

At times people get flex in making simple things too complicated – tech is also one of them.

The CRM’s etc and too many tools in different aspects of tech complicate lives than they make it simple.

If you had to share, “words of wisdom,” with a tech recruiter who’s about to start their journey in tech recruitment, what would they be?

Dimple: Don’t make simple things complicated. Communicate at every step. Be a good Human and compliment candidates about what you like in their resume – make their day.

Have a learning attitude – tech is forever changing and forever upgrading. Work on relationship building skills. Internet Research and communication skills. The tech languages part is easier to understand if you ask the right questions and take a genuine interest in people.

At times candidates teach you a lot – be a good listener. Appreciate your own self on a daily basis a lot – because in Recruitment – appreciation is something that you don’t get easily. External validation is hard – so validate your own self. 

Work on self-love, self-esteem, and confidence along with the above skill sets.
